Jimmy W. is the son of U.S. Air Force Major William D. W. Jr. “My father was a hard worker and loving man who always put his family and his country ahead of himself.” When Major W. lost his life in 2004 in connection to his military service, Jimmy was only four years old. “To me, my father’s military service is an example of selflessness and disciplined dedication that I hope to emulate in whatever career I find myself in the future.”

As a Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation (Fallen Patriots) scholarship recipient, Jimmy was given the opportunity to complete a summer internship with Southpoint Capital Advisors in Wealth Management. His main responsibilities were collecting information, analyzing financial models, and some programming work. He is most proud of a program he created that helped automate data collection, eliminating 3-4 labor-hours per week.

“My experience at Southpoint has given me intimate knowledge of how a hedge fund works and I gained valuable experience that I’m sure will help me in my career path in the future. After this internship I’ve decided that I want to pursue a career in the financial industry.”

Jimmy credits Fallen Patriots for impacting his life. “Fallen Patriots’ mission statement makes me feel comforted and encouraged that there is such an organization that cares about students like myself.” His brother Ryan will graduate from Harvard this spring with help from Fallen Patriots.

Nearly 25,000 military children have lost a parent in the line of duty over the past 35 years. Fallen Patriots is working to identify and support every child in need through raising funds and awareness of the mission.
