Some children of US servicemen killed in combat are giving their late dads a special gift this Father’s Day: a letter telling them how much they still mean to them.

On Father’s Day, Haley Hartwick usually stops by Texas Roadhouse, which was her father’s favorite restaurant, to get a take-out dinner of steak and potatoes. She then likes to go home and watch the movie “Quest for Camelot,” a film they enjoyed watching together.

Memorial Day is a day to reflect and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and for one organization, an opportunity to give back to the loved ones they left behind.

The success stories of the foundation are evident, when you look at Jervon Lemon. She graduated from South Carolina State University — debt free — with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in December 2010. Shortly after, she attended South University and received her master’s degree in professional counseling. She now enjoys a career working as the scholarship administrator at Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation.
