Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation scholar Jasmine A. is the daughter of U.S. Navy Petty Officer Third Class Norman A., who passed away in 2016. When asked how she would describe her father, Jasmine says, “Everyone who knew my dad would describe him as selfless, brave, and hilarious. He appreciated everyone's uniqueness and, as my role model, made me a better person for it. His constant love and excitement for life is something I will always strive to carry with me.”

Jasmine is a senior at the University of Washington where she is pursuing a double major in Marine Biology and General Biology. She is a member of two labs on campus that focus on Environmental Toxicology and Marine Biology. After graduating in 2024, Jasmine plans to attend graduate school to further study the microbiome of sea lions, disease transmission, and micro-plastic abundance. “I believe these issues will become more prevalent as species experience range shifts due to changing climates and as ocean pollution continues. ”

When asked about how Fallen Patriots is impacting her during her time in college, Jasmine says,

Children of Fallen Patriots has created a community of support and kindness for me. Their willingness and excitement to help create the brightest future for me is something I will be eternally grateful for. They have allowed me to be part of classes and experiences that would’ve remained out of reach for me, some of which have changed the course of my career. Their support has helped me find my lifelong interest in conservation.

The vision of Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation is to ensure that every such child necessary college funding. Approximately 25,000 children have lost an active-duty parent during their term of military service. No centralized database exists of these families, and as a result, children who are eligible for our support can be missed. If you are a part of, or know of such a family, please reach out to us to see how we can support the need for educational funding.
