Nearly 500 people gathered at Riverside Yacht Club in Greenwich on Nov. 3 to honor Gold Star families and the brave servicemen and servicewomen who have died defending the United States.

At the annual gala, Fallen Patriots families and supporters enjoy a cocktail hour, dinner, presentation, live auction, and the Fund-A-Scholarship, which allows supporters to see their donations at work by contributing to tuition, books, computers and more.

Student speaker Izabel Nelson shared her story at the event.

“I am so grateful for all that Fallen Patriots has given me, and with their help I am one step further to graduating from my dream school and favorite place on earth, Virginia Tech,” said Nelson, who is studying human development. She expects to graduate debt-free next year and plans to pursue a career at Special Olympics.

To mark this year’s 2018 Patriot Award, Gen. Raymond A. Thomas III, commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command, was honored for his military career and devotion to the safety and freedom of America.

Fallen Patriots board member Ben Carter and his wife, Hillary, were honored with the Distinguished Service Award for their support of military families.

Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation honors the sacrifices of fallen military heroes by ensuring the success of their children through college educations. Since 2002, Fallen Patriots has provided $26 million in total assistance to over 1,250 military children. Nearly 20,000 children from across America will need future assistance.
